SageWind is an indie-acoustic duo from NY, form. Founded in 2001 by the now husband-and-wife musical team at a Huntington NY coffee house, the two have been creating their unique brand of organically introspective, yet intensely gripping song. Their first release in 2002 was called simply "Windfall", a title they had contemplated and briefly used as their group name before settling on the now established, "SageWind". The CD, recorded in a friend's basement over a brief two-week period, produced the singles "Where She Lives" and "Nobody's Fault", which received local airplay on college radio including WUSB in Stony Brook, NY.
To follow in 2004, was their second record "Night Tripper", an EP, featuring the the title-track single as well as the melodically haunting, "Another Way". The EP was supported by regular shows throughout Long Island and Manhattan.
Shortly following this release, the two relocated to central CT, where they also received local airplay on college radio stations, such as WUMB. They continued to play venues throughout the CT and NY area, until their stage hiatus following the birth of their daughter in 2006. However, still to come was their most recent and recognized record, "Ripple In Time", featuring the singles, "Unmarked Car", "Outside the Lines" (a crowd-favorite), and the re-recorded version of "Nobody's Fault", which saw it's release in March of 2007.
On the heals of "Ripple In Time", SageWind completed the lo-fi, yet competent cover of the early 90's alt-rock favorite, "It's a Shame About Ray" by The Lemonheads. Their version of the song was chosen for inclusion as a bonus, yet title track on the Squealing Fans tribute to Evan Dando of The Lemonheads.
Now based back in eastern Long Island since 2007, the duo has begun working diligently on another new record. While official release is not expected until later 2010, "leaked tracks" will be available for download within the next few months. Some song titles to look for will be "The Day I Stopped Listening To You" and "Refugee Universe". SageWind is also collaborating with some other great artists and friends while exploring a new edge in their sound.
In the meantime, you can find Sean and Athena showcasing new (and old) material on the third Thursday of each month at the Vail-Leavitt Music Hall in Riverhead, NY (some solo sets by Athena Wisniewski as well). Shows and events TBA as scheduled...
